Run it regularily. Hawkeye22Dec 18, 2013, 3:20 PM A lot of people including myself have been having XP update problems. But that's sorta like piping your error messages to "Dev Null", they're not really gone & solved, you just can't seem'em anymore. BITS not being started was still the problem.

The main cause of that would be a problem with the windows installer. Was able to get Windows Update working by the using the fix in this thread. Then I installed MS Security Essentials & I've just installed IE8 & am going to reboot as soon as I get done writing this post. Are you sure you have updated to SP3? I have dumped Windows (7) from this machine, didn't want it in the first place. I had even checked the system event logs and come up empty.
